Wharekauri 1A2
Wharekauri 1A2 is a 781.8527 hectare property situated on North Road at Taupeka, approximately 28 kilometres from Waitangi. The land is on the northern coast of the Chatham Islands and is flat running to sand hill in contour with sand dunes along the foreshore. Wharekauri 1A2 is in two sections dissected by North Road and the property has an open aspect. The block can be accessed from North Road.
The block is currently vacant and approximately 6 hectares are able to be utilised.
A Nga Whenua Rahui was established over the coastal side of the block (82 hectares) to protect the Ko Iwi (human remains) in the sand dunes.
There is an old wooden dwelling, outbuildings and also an old woolshed on the property.
There are also a number of wahi tapu sites on the land.
