So that the foundations of ancestral lands may be solid, benefitting Māori from our past, present and future alike. This is Te Tumu Paeroa, guardian, support and advancer of the mana of Māori land everywhere.

Our role is to provide professional trustee services for Māori. We do this by carrying out the terms of trusts and ensuring the whenua is protected and enhanced for future generations.

He angitūtanga: About the Role:

As Te Tumu Paeroa continues to evolve and strengthen its services, we are expanding our leadership capability with an additional Kaitaki | Team Leader position in our Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington Trust & Property team. This is an opportunity to work alongside a passionate team, contribute to a growing organisation, and make a meaningful difference for the whenua and people we serve.

As Kaitaki | Team Leader, you will lead the delivery of high-quality trust administration and property management services. You will model the values of Te Tumu Paeroa in your everyday mahi and set a strong example for your team.

In your day-to-day mahi, you will support the team to perform at a high level, deliver quality outcomes, and meet or exceed client service expectations—while keeping the protection and enhancement of whenua Māori at the heart of everything you do.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team
  • Provide guidance on complex trust and property matters
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor team performance, quality, and service standards
  • Manage risk and compliance, and drive continuous improvement
  • Support operational planning and reporting
  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and collaboration

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience in team leadership or people management positions
  • Ability to build, grow and to continue to enhance a team culture, through the embodiment of the organisation’s values and vision.
  • Proven experience in managing team performance, including team planning, setting goals and targets, learning and development, and managing performance issues.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence
  • An appreciation for the importance of Māori land and professional trustee services
  • An understanding of trust administration, and/or property, leases and tenancy operations would be a bonus
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand is essential.
  • Occasional travel required.

Ngā Pae Mōhiotanga Reo Māori

  • Pae Tahi- Te Whakahua | A desire and ability to practise correct pronunciation of Te Reo Māori (essential).

 

Ngā Pae Mōhiotanga Tikanga Māori

  •  Pae Tahi- Nō Ia Rā | An understanding and living of Tikanga Māori on a day-to-day level, for example, the removing of shoes before entering a whare, washing hands at the urupa and not sitting on tables (essential)
