The Māori Trustee, Dr Charlotte Severne and Te Tumu Paeroa wish to express their condolences on the passing of Tā Toby Curtis.

The Māori Trustee, Dr Charlotte Severne and Te Tumu Paeroa wish to express their condolences on the passing of Tā Toby Curtis
Dr Severne has paid tribute to Ta Toby’s contribution to whenua Māori governance and his work on behalf of Te Arawa.
“Tā Toby was an influential and thoughtful leader imparting his knowledge openly across all aspects of his life, whilst always advocating for a shared understanding of te reo Māori.”
Tā Toby had been chair of Te Arawa Lakes Trust for the last 16 years, having only stepped down in April this year. “His commitment to implementing a co-governance model for the Trust was inspirational and has helped ensure the voices of Te Arawa iwi will be heard for future generations,” said Dr Severne.
