Owner Feedback sought on Te Ara Tipuna Consent

The Māori Trustee is seeking feedback from owners on the resource consent application by Te Ara Tipuna Charitable Trust.

The Māori Trustee has been notified of a resource consent application by Te Ara Tipuna Charitable Trust relating to Te Ara Tipuna Trail project.

This notification relates to potentially affected land blocks administered by the Māori Trustee being within or adjacent to the trail’s proposed route.

Te Ara Tipuna Charitable Trust has lodged an application for multiple resource consents to enable the design and construction of Stage 1 of the Te Ara Tipuna Trail. The Stage 1 trail is a public walking trail only and runs for approximately 500km from Gisborne around the coast to Ōpōtiki.

The Trail is proposed to be located across private and multiple owned land blocks, along road corridors, reserves and the coastal margin.

The Māori Trustee plans to schedule meetings with owners of directly affected land blocks in the first quarter of 2025. The purpose of this hui will be to give owners the opportunity to meet with key members from the Te Ara Tipuna project working group and discuss any issues or concerns. The exact dates will be confirmed in early 2025, and owners of directly affected land blocks will be notified.

The Māori Trustee is interested in understanding any feedback owners may have on the project now, including its location, construction and potential effects.  This feedback can be sent to [email protected].  Owners are also encouraged to provide a submission directly to the council on the resource consent via the link below.

The application documents for the resource consent can be found here - Te Ara Tipuna Charitable Trust - Te Ara Tipuna Trail | Gisborne District Council, along with the proposed map of the trail. Submissions to The Gisborne District Council must be received no later than 5pm Friday 7 February 2025.
