Taranaki freshwater quality and usage kōrero

Taranaki Regional Council are holding meetings with farmers, businesses and communities to gain insights on their use of freshwater

Taranaki Regional Council is seeking to engage with farmers, businesses and communities about their use of freshwater and how Council would shape the new rules.

A series of meetings is being held in June and July that are open to everyone who cares about our rivers or streams or whose work or business relies on water, such as farmers, businesses and industry. Dates and venues for the series, called A Water Targets Roadshow, are listed on the webpage below.

There will be experts on hand to answer questions about what can be done to improve water quality and protect Taranaki’s rivers and streams in the short, medium and long term.

The Council is looking to set targets for E. coli, sediment and nutrients and limits on how much water can be sustainably taken from waterways.

Consultation started on 10 June and closes on Friday 2 August 2024.

Further information on the Regional Council engagement and issues can be found on their webpage here.
