Kaitaki | Team Leader (Gisborne)

We are seeking a Kaitaki | Team Leader in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa | Gisborne. 

  • Full time permanent position, based in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa | Gisborne.

So that the foundations of ancestral lands may be solid, benefitting Māori from our past, present and future alike. This is Te Tumu Paeroa, guardian, support and advancer of the mana of Māori land everywhere.

Our role is to provide professional trustee services for Māori. We do this by carrying out the terms of trusts and ensuring the whenua is protected and enhanced for future generations.

He angitūtanga: About the Role:

Based in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa | Gisborne, the Kaitaki | Team Leader, is responsible for ensuring the regional team performs and delivers the Trust administration duties and property management services required, to a high standard. The essence of this critical role is to contribute to the core values of Te Tumu Paeroa, living and breathing these, as a strong example to your team. Your day-to-day role will encourage the team to function at a high level, providing quality outputs, meeting and exceeding expectations in service delivery to clients, with the enhancement and protection of Whenua Māori always at the heart of what you do.

The key responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Building and fostering of a strong culture within your team that values the importance of adherence to policies, processes and procedures and strives for continuous learning, development and improvement.
  • Provision of clear and concise instructions that promote the priorities and goals of Māori Trustee and Te Tumu Paeroa 
  • Ensure your team are well trained and impediments impacting outcomes, deliverables and targets are rectified.
  • Contribute to annual planning processes for your team. Contribute to organisation wide planning processes, ensuring continuity of services across Te Tumu Paeroa. 
  • Ensure Learning and Development Plans are in place and managed effectively for your team.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance associated with your team functions.

He kōrero mōu | What we are looking for:

  • Several years' experience in team leadership and people management positions.
  • Ability to build, grow and to continue to enhance a team culture, through the embodiment of the organisation's values and vision.
  • Proven experience in managing team performance, including team planning, setting goals and targets, learning and development, and managing performance issues. 
  • An ability to build relationships through open and clear communication, both verbal and written.
  • An understanding of trust administration, and/or property, leases and tenancy operations would be a bonus. 
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand is essential.

Ngā Pae Mōhiotanga Reo Māori

  • Pae Toru - Te Mau me Te Whakahoki | An understanding of Te Reo Māori and the ability to answer and converse in the language. A desire and ability to practise correct pronunciation of Te Reo Māori (desired).

Ngā Pae Mōhiotanga Tikanga Māori

  • Pae Toru - Te Ao Wairua | An understanding and living of Tikanga Māori on an Ao Wairua level. Knowing and practising things such as karanga, whaikōrero, whakapapa, karakia tahito and mōteatea (desired).
